MANAGEMENT OF DRYDOCKINGS

With increasing refined fuel prices and stringent emission norms, there is the need for better coating management for improved hull efficiency. Coating Inspection at Dry Docks is a valuable opportunity for ship owners to "Ground Truth" the condition and performance of existing coatings. Dry dock inspection methodology encompasses all operations carried out towards final coating application. Being an independent entity with no ties to Coating manufacturers and ship yards, the results are honest, unbiased and procedures designed to benefit ship owners.
The objective is to develop and maintain the industry's highest standards by stringent quality control mechanisms, with regards to existing coating performance evaluation, surface preparation and new coating application, ensuing high levels of sustained hull efficiency and fuel savings.
Over 6 years of Cruise Ships Dry dock coatings project management experience (including two of the current world's biggest cruise ships), have been successfully carried out for a major cruise line companies in the current market. Substantial immediate savings while at dry-dock in terms of reduced shipyard invoices and savings in coatings consumption. Extensive understanding of performance coatings (testing, selection, surface preparation & application), working procedures of shipyards and cruise line company requirements.
Valuable results and trends have been generated, helping ship owners verify coating performance and make decisions on future coating selection. Developed a Comprehensive Coatings Management Strategy for a major cruise lines. Part of this strategy includes, the Designing, fabrication and installation of a strategic coatings testing program.
Services offered prior to dry-docking
Technical Consultation - Consulting advice on coatings selection / Coating schemes based on ship's itinerary and company requirements
Analysis - Evaluation, analysis and comparisons of quotations by paint manufacturers.
Project Planning - Meeting with ship owners and Shipyard representatives to streamline project plans to suit the customers.
Services at dry dock
Role - Act as Owner's representative in the Dry Dock, dealing with the Shipyard and Paint company representative to manage coatings project (UW Hull, Internal Tanks & Topside).
Project Planning - Time management and planning to meet the changing requirements during dry docking. Have project managed short, time bound dry-docking with full hull blasting and new silicone application. Adapting to ever changing situations of a dry dock; preparing alternative plans and execution to ensure "on time" completion with zero compromise on quality. Meeting the requirements of Ship managers.
Biofouling condition assessment - Percent Drag Penalty estimation based on existing fouling condition. In docking fouling condition assessment. Fouling types percent distribution for entire UW hull.
Biofouling samples (Upon request) - Biofouling samples extraction from various zones of the hull for scientific assessment by independent third party with DNA analysis capability. To identify dominant fouling species settlement and select appropriate coatings to counter this growth.
In-Docking coating condition assessment - Coating Condition distribution, Dry Film Thickness & Coating Roughness measurements and frequency/percent distribution across the hull. Thousands of DFT & Roughness data points are measured to provide a much credible average DFT and Hull Roughness.
Touch-up Surface area percentage estimation negotiations with shipyard - Sea-chests / Crossovers / Fenders area / Topsides / Niche areas. Creating a work scope for niche areas only after a thorough inspection.
Sacrificial Anodes & ICCP (Shields) - Inspection and replacement/ repair work advice.
Monitoring of all surface preparation - Instruct and monitor contracted facility to ensure compliance to correct surface preparation for agreed coating(s). Documentation of all operations for quality control and detailed calculation of surface areas subjected to surface preparation for shipyard invoice auditing.
Stringent Inspection - Thorough inspection after each surface preparation process. Identifying deficiencies for correction
Monitoring of all coating application (Topside, Internal tanks and UW) - Maintaining compliance to standards recommended for optimal coating application and consumption. Identifying deficiencies for correction
Coating consumption - Maintain a very thorough coating consumption inventory while application is in process to minimize wastage and avoid over consumption.
New coating condition assessment - Coating Condition, Dry Film Thickness & Coating Roughness measurements and frequency / percent distribution across the Hull.
Propeller Surface Condition Assessment - Surface roughness measurements and documentation.
Shipboard Technical Consulting - Advice and guidance to any onboard coatings related requirements (Engine Room & Deck) to the ship officers.
Auditing -- Ship yard and Coating company invoices.
Detailed Technical Reporting - Highly detailed technical reports with complete documentation of all operations during dry-docking. Standard of reporting is above and beyond any industry coatings report.
Immediate Savings - Substantial costs reductions in terms of returned paint and shipyard invoices.
Long-term Savings - Increased hull efficiency resulting in fuel savings due to better control on DFT and Roughness and maintaining recommended parameters during application.
Additional services - Any other services as deemed appropriate and in agreement with both parties (Internal Tanks / Pools / Balcony)
